You’ll have seen people doing it, but nearly always with a personal trainer. It’s one of the few exercises people choose to add to their own workout, making it potentially one of the most underused and forgotten exercises: the Farmers Walk.
As a personal trainer, it’s routine to induct clients in what’s regarded as the ‘big lifts’ before they start their training, often including a kettlebell swing. The swing is a move many people regard as an exercise they can perform without direction, so they are asked to demonstrate. The result, for the majority, is not the technique we’d recommend at Short Motivation.

Pity the poor push-up. Used as a punishment in PE classes and the military, less sexy than a thousand more complicated exercises available in the modern gym, and done with terrible form by almost everyone, it’s perhaps the most underrated exercise on the planet. Because done right, the humble press-up is one of the best full-body moves possible.
If there’s one thing Short Motivation will encourage you to do, try and get outside and use the environment for whilst exercising. With this in mind, regular steps can be used to provide an excellent heart-raising workout.
A plyometric box is a great way to make a whole host of exercises more strenuous and higher intensity. You can advance a plyometric box workout by incorporating a weight, such as a kettlebell. This can make exercise harder and useful for engaging your core, as your body has to stabilise the extra weight.
The kettlebell is a hugely universal piece of fitness equipment, where the mobility and diversity makes it perfect for almost anyone. It is particularly useful to take outdoors or on holiday, as there is no need for any other equipment and the rugged nature of a good kettlebell means it doesn’t matter if you throw it around or get it dirty!
